Updating this story, the track that Qwikker has available is 1 minute long. It is not a remix, but a couple of album cuts spliced together. The first 22 seconds are "The Future" and the last 38 seconds are "Tell Me."

Posted in Diddy/Dirty Money
Posted by Patrick
From the press release:

Qwikker, the leading provider of user-driven, on-location mobile content distribution has announced that it is supporting 3s promotion of the newly launched 3MusicStore. Qwikker is enabling mobile users to freely download an exclusive music track remix from P Diddys Press Play album. The track The Future is available to everyone via Bluetooth, regardless of mobile operator, through Qwikkers network of 450 pub locations.

This Qwikker promotion, running in the month of November, is one of a number of marketing initiatives being run by 3 to promote its new 3MusicStore, but crucially enables the operator to extend its outreach and communicate with non-3 customers. Qwikkers network utilises Bluetooth, therefore there are no data charges incurred by mobile users for content delivered to their handset. Qwikker allows brands to deliver freemium content at no cost to end users, as well as premium content payable by mobile bill, credit card or cash.

I'm not sure what this might be, but if anyone downloads it, please let me know. I'm trying to find out more and I'll post more information as I have it.

XXL sat down for an interview with Aasim.

In 2007, it will have been 10 years since B.I.G.s passing. Diddy says that youre the lead-man for the new Bad Boy era. Where do you see yourself in ten years?
In ten years, I pray that Im a billionaire. B.I.G. was B.I.G., and there will never be another one like him. I would never try to fill those shoes or anything like that. Its unfortunate that he lost his life. Its sad that I never got a chance to work with him. I would try and spread the message that beefing and all that bullshit in hip-hop isnt really cool. I want to take some of the street seriousness out of the game, where shit changes and egos dont clash as much. I heard Pac say that he wanted to spark the brain of the person who changed the world. Well, B.I.G. and Pac were pieces of a puzzle and I want to add onto that framework. I want to live the way that Im supposed to and leave my mark the way I am going to. I cant ask for anything more than that.

Diddy was on a German TV show to promote "Press Play" and it was a nice little segment. It's always interesting to see how people in other countries perceive music differently from us in the U.S. You can see a couple of clips on YouTube. On the second one, the guy asks Diddy to say some lyrics over him playing the guitar. Diddy drops a slowed down version of his verse on "It's All About the Benjamins".

Billboard has an article talking about Jay-Z's "Show Me What You Got" and Diddy's "We Gon' Make It", both of which sample "Shaft in Africa" by Johnny Pate.

Chalk it up to a case of fluke timing for the hip-hop superstars, as the tracks have different producers and were cleared months apart from each other. "Show Me What You Got" was produced by Just Blaze and cleared in September, while K-Def is the producer on "We Gon' Make It," which was cleared last summer, according to a source familiar with the situation.

There is an article on Diddy in The Sunday Times Magazine.

Yet, for all the success, he has been stalked by trouble. He was born in Harlem, where he grew up until his mother was able to move the family he has a younger sister, Keisha out to Mount Vernon in upstate New York when he was 12. When he was three, his father, Melvin, was shot dead after a party. He was rumoured to be a drug dealer, and all the cuttings say he was a Muslim. Diddy denies the latter with a certain cold vehemence.

No, he says emphatically, he wasnt Muslim.

P Diddy was very definitely brought up as a Christian.

I was brought up spiritually. I was an altar boy in a Catholic church, and then also had afternoons at a Baptist church I got the best of both worlds. I was in church every Sunday, all day. I give all glory to God. Its because of Him that all that I do is possible. Hes my secret weapon. I have not even a doubt about him; its way beyond belief.

Termanology has released what seems to be a bit of a Diddy tribute song with Termanology saying "What's up, rap world? I figured I'd take this opportunity to look outside of myself and say, what would I say if I was Diddy?" He then raps:

9-1, Heavy D
9-2, Mary J.
No more Uptown
Bad Boy on the way
9-3, 9-4, B.I.G.'s in the door
9-5, makin' hits, Junior M.A.F.I.A. clique
Craig Mack, Flava in Ya Ear, don't stop there
Lil' Kim, posin' in the panties in the brassiere
Sing Biggie, Biggie, gimme one more chance
Biggie, Biggie, gimme one more chance, oh, man
Fly chicks, rollin' in fly whips
9-6, Bad Boy invented the remix
These hits got the whole world lovin' my clique
They lovin' the sound
The whole world hittin' my hip
9-7, Big passed and he went up to heaven
Only on his second album, he already a legend
Man, I wish Big coulda seen the world in 0-7
Matter of fact, sometimes I wish I just died with him
I miss him

At the start of the track, Kanye raps "They claim Puff dead, I'm out the tomb then..."

It's a neat track.

Here are some press release quotes from Diddy and Block on renewing the deal:

In making the announcement, Sean "Diddy" Combs said: "As we have continued to expand the musical scope of Bad Boy, we knew we had to be plugged into the creative and vibrant Southern scene. When Block and I first met, I realized he had an ear for the streets of the South and that he would be the perfect person to be our partner in developing and breaking new talent. The success of Boyz N Da Hood and Yung Joc proves that our instincts were right, and there is much more fantastic music in the pipeline from the Block/Bad Boy South team. I am thrilled that we have renewed our commitment to this great relationship."

Russell "Block" Spencer commented: "As the South market grew, Diddy and Bad Boy realized they needed to be involved. I was looking to take the music we make in the South to another level, and the collaboration between Block Enterprises and Bad Boy South was the perfect avenue for both of our companies. Look at the success we have already attained. When the machine is working successfully, you don't look to fix it, but to add to it to make it better. The renewal of our deal is going to make the Block/Bad Boy South partnership even bigger."

Bad Boy Executive VP and General Manager Harve Pierre commented: "Our joint venture with Block Enterprises has given us the opportunity to reach out to a broader audience base as we move forward with the evolution and re-invention of Bad Boy. Looking back to when we first started with a handful of people in 1992 and fast forwarding to 2006, we have truly grown as a label, family, and industry. We now have the manpower to get more done in less time. After seeing the success of Boyz N Da Hood and Yung Joc on their debut albums, I can say with conviction that this is the continuation of a beautiful relationship."

From the Dream MySpace:

To date, the girls talk about re uniting, but maybe it all was just a dream...

The girls from Dream are talking about a come back. Not a heck of a lot is known, but I'll relay what I've been told about the situation.

It sounds like something they want to do. They being the original 4 members of the group (Melissa, not Kasey). But, there is a big difference between wanting to do something and actually doing it. It remains to be seen if they are ready to get down to business and put in the work and effort it's going to take for them to prove that people are still interested in Dream and that they still have marketable value. Also, with the way they (probably more specifically: Holly and/or Melissa) abruptly exited last time with an album on tap and a single at radio, they probably have some respect and trust that has to be earned back.

In other words: are they ready to work and are their minds in the right place? They'll have to be.

The idea of a comeback starts with the poll to gauge interest in their second album. They have also been asked to come up with a tour schedule, so that they can do a few shows and see if anyone shows up, more or less. If those two things work in their favor, they could be back together to work on a third album. That could be with Bad Boy - or it could be with another label as their rights could be sold. But, in either case, it's safe to say that that is a way's off. They have their work cut out for them, but I'll post information as it becomes available.

Holly's MySpace has a couple of interesting things. It has a picture of a supposed "Reality" cover with the words "support 4 our comeback" as well as a blog entry asking "who would like a ( DREAM ) world tour reunion"?

And that's the question. Who would? Demand dictates everything because demand means money. If they truly want it, if they can re-capture at least some of the fan base that they left and reach new fans, they'll be back.

Posted in Bad Boy Records
Posted by Patrick
There is a poll up on the Dream MySpace. It has this description:

Please vote if you want to buy Dream's 2nd Unreleased album REALITY for $9.99. 14 songs plus interludes. Songs featuring Diddy, Fabulous, Loon. Music by Diddy, Scott Storch, Rodney Jerkins... It's the best DREAM album yet...

MySpace bulletins have been sent out basically saying that a poll could help Diddy decide to release the album digitally in the U.S. Up until this point, it has only been available on Virgin's French site. If you don't have a credit card in France or something like that, you are out of luck. So, if you want them to release it, head over there and vote.

As I write, there are 174 votes. It's safe to say that they are looking for a number much larger than this. But, every vote counts, so again, if you want them to release it, get yours in. I have a couple of tracks off the album ("That's OK" featuring Fabolous and Diddy and "Crazy" featuring Loon) and I like both of them. You can listen to snippets at the VirginMega.fr site, as well.

I'm trying to get some credits for the album and, if I do, I'll be sure to post them.

Diddy has cancelled his representation deal with The Firm and has signed with Chris Lighty at Violator Management. Check out the Violator site and also check out Chris Lighty's blog. He wrote this on October 14:

Love him and Hate him but I will be the first to say it if you rappers aren't entertaining me the way "Diddy's" new album is than thats part of the problem. I need to say diddy is by no means a rapper but he is an entertainer and that is what makes his album entertaining and fun to listen to!!!

From the press release:

Chris Lighty, CEO Violator Management, announced today an agreement with Sean "Diddy" Combs to direct the music career for the internationally successful hip-hop artist, producer, designer and entrepreneur.

Lighty's Violator Management -- the multi-media management, marketing, brand development and entertainment company whose clients include 50 Cent, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, LL Cool J, Three 6 Mafia, Fantasia and others -- begins strategic work immediately on Diddy's Billboard #1 album, PRESS PLAY, released October 17 on the hip-hop impresario's own Bad Boy Entertainment label (distributed by Atlantic).

With Diddy already successful as a huge brand in and of himself, Violator's marketing arm will take on a new task for the globally recognized figure. The company will specifically implement brand extension plans intended to expand Diddy's reach and influence exponentially in music.

And I use my website, diddy.com, to put my music out there. To me, its about that experience: that when you listen to music it affects you and evokes some emotion. With a concert tour slated for 2007 and competition from his own rappers, fan support will be more important than ever. The future looks clear, though. The people I have played it for have been pleasantly surprised, he says confidently. In order to be successful with this album, I knew I would have to surprise people.

Watch below. They didn't come out and say it was for Press Play but it's kind of implied. But, The Neptunes produced track on Press Play ("Partners for Life") doesn't sound anything like it. I think I spotted Hev-D in the video, as well.

It looks like Diddy is in the next issue of Essence. He and Kim Porter are interviewed in what the magazine bills as "their first interview together". People has some quotes:

The couple are even stronger now, Diddy says: "She taught me well. When you're in a relationship, there's a lot of give-and-take. Before I was just selfish."

Adds Porter, "He could be a little more attentive to his family, but I understand who he is and what that requires of him. He's in a business where he wants to be the best, and he wants to make sure his family has the best. It takes a lot of his person to do that. You know, there's only so much time in the day. But as long as he makes us feel like we're a family, I'm fine."

From ITV News:

Hip hop mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs has revealed he used to wet the bed as a child.

... said he only wrested control of his bladder by the time he was six.

I don't know why this is news. Pretty much everyone wets the bed when they are a kid (whether or not they talk about it or not is another thing). At some point, they stop. Some stop earlier than others. That's just the way it is. 6 isn't old for that, either. But, hey, maybe some little kid who's embarassed or gets teased sees this and feels a bit better, so that's a cool side effect, I'd say.

Watch it here. Pretty likely it's an unofficial leak since this video hasn't been promoted at all. It features cameos from Yung Joc and (I think - it's blurry) Block and Boyz N Da Hood. It features footage from the video for Warning by The Notorious B.I.G.

So says Kim Thurman, the owner of the club where it was held.

Diddy, real name Sean Combs, ensured the bash was up to the highest standards by flying in six litre bottles of vintage Dom Perignon champagne, each at the cost of 1,500, from London and Milan.

By the way, this makes "New Joc City" the first Bad Boy album to have 4 videos since "Faithfully" by Faith Evans, which was released on November 6, 2001.

The latest Billboard Hot 100 chart as the following:

"Show Stopper" is the top Bad Boy track, moving up to #12 from #13. "Come to Me" is at #15, down from #9. "I Know You See It" falls 4 spots to #33. "Tell Me" fell 30 spots from #62 to #92, but the video was just released, so we'll see how that plays out. "Long Way 2 Go" managed to stay on the countdown, but barely, as it's down 3 spots to #100.

So, I watched Access Granted last night to see the video for "1st Time," which is Yung Joc's 3rd single.

The video is alright. It features a revised version of the song with Joc switching some words around and Trey Songz singing a bit. Besides Joc, Songs and Marques Houston, the video features cameos from Block, Doug E. Fresh, 8 Ball & MJG, Jody Breeze, Brandy "Ms. B" Hambrick and probably others that don't come to mind right now. I imagine it'll be available online soon if it isn't already (I didn't see it on YouTube).

"Press Play"'s second week tally is 60,000 (good for #7), pushing it up to 231,000. "Danity Kane" sold 17,900 (#47, 680,400 overall), "New Joc City" sold 9,400 (#101, 797,951) and "Cassie" sold 4,600 (#191, 254,100). Next week will likely see "Cassie" finally fall off of The Billboard 200, unfortunately. This makes me wonder when the last time was (before last week) that Bad Boy had 4 albums in The Billboard 200.
