MTV picks up on a part of
tomorrow's Chuck Phillips story that had been neglected: he claims that Biggie knew, as well.
Los Angeles Times journalist Chuck Philips has more surprising allegations concerning musical icons Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G. (born Christopher Wallace) and Sean "Diddy" Combs. In an article that the Times will be publishing Monday morning (March 17), Philips alleges that Combs and Wallace were aware, a week in advance, that Tupac would be ambushed in the 1994 shooting at New York's Quad Recording Studios, two years before he was shot and killed in Las Vegas.
"They were advised in advance of what was going to happen," Philips told MTV News on Saturday. "They did not know the assailants were going to be shooting. In fact, [the assailants] were told no shooting. But Tupac pulled a gun, and it went haywire. It was supposed to be a severe beating."
SOHH.com reports on a Biggie tribute track released by rapper H.B. (Hav Boy) Monte in honor it being 11 years since Big passed.
The track features Biggie vocals on the chorus and contributions from 50 Cent, Bizzy Bone, Maino, Chingy, Monte, Bobby Valentino and Chris Notez. 50's contribution is on the intro where he starts with "Yeah, what up, Big? It's your main man, 50 Cent". I'm going to choose to look at this as a term of endearment as a fan rather than anything else. Overall, it's a cool track.
The
New York Daily News reports that the most important casting decisions for the upcoming Biggie biopic have been made. Brooklyn rapper Gravy will play Biggie. This isn't a surprise by any means as his name has been mentioned time and time again by various writers.
Angela Bassett will play Voletta Wallace, as previously rumored. Also of note, Anthony Mackie will play 2Pac and Diddy will be portrayed by Derek Luke. You can get a better look at Mackie and Luke on their IMDB pages:
